The Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos Islands are an archipelago of volcanic islands situated in the Pacific Ocean, west of Ecuador. The Islands have been deemed a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It contains a large number of endemic species. Interestingly, the noted Charles Darwin, on his voyage of the "beagle", observed the Galapagos Islands in the 1800s, which later led him to form the Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection.

The islands contain exclusive wildlife animals, some of which are giant tortoises, marine iguanas, land iguanas, blue footed booby, penguin, sea lions, flamingos, waved albatross, frigate birds and sally light foot crab.

When To Visit?

The best thing about the Islands is that even after 200 years of Darwin's Galapagos_water_1.JPGjourney, the place is still in a time-warped condition, with the same flora and fauna surrounding it as if you have landed in the bygone eras of dinosaurs and flying birds.

The wet season is better than the dry season to visit. Mid- April to mid- May is an ideal time to visit in the whole year because, otherwise, the climatic factors such as gray skies, excessive rain, warm temperature and choppy seas make it difficult to enjoy a vacation. One needs to book at least a year in advance for cruise boats. An estimated 70,000 tourists travel each year to Galapagos Islands. The cruise varies from 4 days to 2 weeks depending on budgets. The islands also boast of finest water sports in the whole world.

The Islands worth a visit of a lifetime are Baltra Island, Darwin Island, Hood Island, Santa Maria Island, Genovesa Island, Isabela Island, Marchena, Nameless Island, North Seymour Island, Duncan Island, Abingdon Island, Chatham Island, Jervis Island, Santa Fe Island, Santiago Island, South Plaza and Wolf Island.

Owing to illegal fishing, harvest of sea cucumbers and other issues, the UNESCO has put the island in the World Heritage Danger List.

This is very beautiful place to visit and can give guarantee that you will not feel bored.
