Eco Safari In S Africa
The Story Behind the Earth Organization
The Earth Organization (TEO) was founded by internationally acclaimed, South African conservationist, Lawrence Anthony, who owns and lives on an exclusive game preserve in South Africa. He is most well known for his remarkable 5 ½-month rescue initiative of the animals in the Baghdad Zoo, early in the Iraqi War. For his amazing act of courage, he received the United Nation’s Earth Trustee Award. His story is so compelling that a Hollywood major, feature-length motion picture about his heroism is being produced.
As a result of his experiences in Baghdad, as well as a searching look at the down-trending environmental statistics on our planet, Lawrence decided to found a unique, non-profit, environmental organization dedicated to bringing effective, long-term solutions to the global problems we all face.
One key aspect of TEO which sets us apart is the understanding that, for a solution to truly be a workable, long-term answer, it must address and benefit by far the greater number of elements involved in any situation, including Mankind’s global expansion, commerce, industry, people, jobs, other plants and animals, etc; not just a single aspect of the problem or a particular species. We investigate to find the real source of a problem and focus on the resolution of that.
TEO's Mission Statement: To raise mankind’s awareness of his vital partnership for survival with the natural world, and, through education and conservation activities, to bring effective, down-to-earth solutions to environmental challenges.
The following are examples of some of the key projects we have completed or are currently working on:
- ECO SAFARIS TO SOUTH AFRICA: We are conducting educational
safaris for adults to a private game preserve in South Africa where the attendees have extraordinary opportunities to enjoy and learn about the wildlife and local Zulu culture, in addition to educational seminars regarding global environmental situations and their solutions, including what each person, individually, can do in their daily lives and in their businesses to become part of the solution rather than part of the problem. The accommodations are luxurious; the wildlife abundant; and the participants have an opportunity to see the extraordinary relationship between Lawrence Anthony and a herd of wild African elephants, so remarkable that CNN, BBC, and a number of other major media have come there to film him with them.
- UNITED NATIONS RESOLUTION TO PROTECT WILDLIFE: We are currently embarked on an international campaign to get accepted by the UN a formal resolution we wrote and submitted to them which would make places in war zones where there are caged wildlife (reserves for endangered species, zoos, veterinary clinics, etc., considered as non-military targets in the same classification as churches, schools and hospitals. Participating in this campaign, as one of the flanking actions, we have the 160 finalists of the 2008 Miss Earth Contest, (held in the Philippines) dedicated to working with their country’s UN representatives to help get this resolution pushed through the UN.
